Frequently Asked Questions

NCB Insurance Agency & Fund Managers Limited (NCBIA) is a subsidiary of National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCBJ). It operates as the NCB Financial Group’s Jamaica based bancassurance and insurance sales and advisory arm, providing customers with convenient access to insurance solutions such as life, health, motor, property, and annuities.

These products are underwritten by Guardian Life Limited (“Guardian Life”) and Guardian General Jamaica Limited (“Guardian General”) and readily available to customers who utilise NCBJ’s extensive banking channels, enabling them to fulfill their insurance needs seamlessly alongside their everyday banking.

Bancassurance is an operating model where banking and insurance services are made available in the same space by the respective service providers, allowing customers to access insurance products offered by an insurance underwriter or agent through a bank’s distribution network.

Under the bancassurance model:

• Products offered: Life insurance, health coverage, annuities, motor and other selected general insurance products
• Underwriting:
• Guardian Life Limited – life, health, annuities
• Guardian General Jamaica Limited – motor and general insurance
• Distribution: Exclusively through NCBIA via NCBJ’s channels
• Customer experience: Policies can be arranged without visiting the insurer directly, with opportunities to make premium payments from NCBJ accounts or obtain insurance coverage to support loan facilities granted by the bank.
• Access points: NCB branches, NCBIA advisors, and selected digital platforms

NCBIA provides distribution, advisory services, and customer support in relation to the insurance products while underwriting and risk management remain with Guardian Life and Guardian General.

On September 30, 2020, NCBIC (now renamed NCBIA) transferred its insurance portfolio to Guardian Life as part of a strategic shift to enable focus on a bancassurance model. This allowed NCBIA to leverage Guardian Life’s underwriting expertise while focusing on customer access, advisory services, and sales integration with banking products.
